The AQPS Masterclasses

This intensive 10-month masterclass, delivered in 10 x 3-hour sessions (total 30 hours), equips you with the foundational knowledge and skills to navigate the exciting world of methods and structural sciences.

Target Audience:

  • Professionals and researchers from various disciplines seeking to integrate methods and structural sciences into their work.
  • Individuals with an interest in easily leveraging their matter expertise with valide and stringent work modes, data analysis, critical thinking, and problem-solving in a scientific context.
  • No prior experience in methods and structural sciences is required.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this masterclass, the maximum 15 participants will be able to:
  • Explain the core principles and applications of methods and structural sciences across different disciplines.
  • Identify and select appropriate methods for analyzing complex problems and data.
  • Apply fundamental statistical analysis techniques and interpret results effectively.
  • Develop a structured approach to research design and implementation.
  • Communicate research findings clearly and concisely.

Masterclass Structure

This is the 2024/25 AQPS Institute Masterclass “Fundamentals in Methods and Structural Sciences”  with its 10 moduls with each 3 hourse and applied homework to directly internalize the learnings and apply the contents in your daily work environment. In the context of the different participants the content may vary in order to maximize learning and participant experience.

Unit 1: Introduction to Methods & Structural Sciences:

  • Defining the field and its significance in research.
  • Exploring the role of methods and structural sciences in various disciplines.

Homework: Identify a current project or challenge in your field where methods and structural sciences could be beneficial. Briefly describe the project and potential applications.

Unit 2: Building Blocks of Research Design:

  • Scientific inquiry and the research process.
  • Formulating clear research questions and hypotheses.

Homework: Refine your project/challenge identified in Unit 1. Develop a research question and a tentative hypothesis.

Unit 3: Introduction to Data Analysis:

  • Types of data and measurement scales.
  • Basic descriptive statistics: measures of central tendency and dispersion.
  • Introduction to data visualization techniques.

     

Homework: Collect relevant data related to your project/challenge (if possible) or utilize provided sample datasets. Calculate basic descriptive statistics.

Unit 4: Data Cleaning & Preparation:

  • Importance of data quality and methods for data cleaning.
  • Handling missing values and outliers.

Homework: Clean and prepare your collected data (or sample data) for further analysis. Address missing values and outliers if applicable.

Unit 5: Hypothesis Testing Fundamentals:

  • Null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis.
  • Understanding statistical significance and p-values.
  • Selecting appropriate statistical tests based on data type and research question

Homework: Based on your research question, identify a suitable statistical test for analyzing your data.

Unit 6: Hypothesis Testing in Practice:

  • Conducting statistical tests using software tools (e.g., R, SPSS).
  • Interpreting test results and drawing conclusions.

Homework: Conduct your chosen statistical test on your prepared data using a software tool. Interpret the results in the context of your research question.

Unit 7: Correlation & Regression Analysis:

  • Exploring relationships between variables: correlation and causation.
  • Linear regression analysis: understanding slopes and intercepts.

Homework: Analyze the relationships between relevant variables in your project/challenge data using correlation analysis.

Unit 8: Introduction to Experimental Design:

  • Principles of experimental design: control groups, randomization, and replication.
  • Identifying potential biases and strategies for mitigation.

Homework: Evaluate the design of your current project/challenge (if applicable). Identify potential biases and suggest strategies to address them

Unit 9: Scientific Communication & Reporting:

  • Effective communication of research findings.
    Structuring scientific reports and presentations.
  • Visualizing data effectively for audiences.

Homework: Develop an outline for a presentation or report summarizing your project/challenge, incorporating your research question, chosen methods, and key findings.

Unit 10: Putting it All Together:

  • Case studies: applying methods and structural sciences in various disciplines.
  • Ethical considerations in research design and data analysis.

Homework: Refine your project/challenge presentation or report based on feedback from instructors and peers. Reflect on the value of methods and structural sciences in your professional context.

Masterclass Delivery:

  • The masterclass will be held online with group discussions, hands-on exercises, break out session for intense peer-to-peer exchange and learning, and case studies.
  • Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, share their experiences, and receive feedback from instructors throughout the course.
  • Online participants will utilize video conferencing platforms with screen-sharing capabilities for interactive sessions.
  • The AQPS Institute provides access to relevant online learning platform during the masterclass.

 

Additional Resources:

  • Participants will receive access to a comprehensive online learning portal with course materials, recordings, additional readings, and software tutorials.
  • The AQPS Institute also offers a dedicated online forum for participants to network, ask questions, and share their learning experiences.

 

Certificate:

  • Each module will include homework assignments and quizzes to assess comprehension and application of learned concepts.
  • Participants are encouraged to actively participate in class discussions and complete all assigned coursework.
  • A certificate of completion will be awarded to participants who successfully fulfill all course requirements.
